How to Make Your Glow Last Through Pools, Beach Days & Sweat
Nothing says summer like sun-kissed skin… but summer can also be one of the toughest seasons on your spray tan. Between beach days, pool parties, workouts, vacations, and extra showers, your glow is working overtime!
The good news? With the right care, you can keep your tan looking fresh, even during the hottest months of the year.
Here's everything you need to know to make your summer glow last.
💦 Does Pool Water Ruin a Spray Tan?
Not instantly—but it can definitely shorten its lifespan.
Chlorine and salt water naturally dry out your skin. Since a spray tan lives in the outermost layer of your skin, anything that dries or exfoliates that layer will cause it to fade more quickly.
Our tips:
Rinse off after swimming.
Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing with a towel.
Apply moisturizer as soon as possible after your shower.
Avoid sitting in a wet swimsuit for long periods if you can.
🌊 What About the Ocean?
Salt water is a natural exfoliant. That doesn't mean you need to avoid the beach (we'd never ask you to do that!), but you should expect your tan to fade a little faster after multiple beach days. The key is to moisturize immediately afterward.
Hydrated skin = longer-lasting color.
🏋️♀️ Working Out
Yes—you can absolutely work out with a spray tan. If you're sweating heavily every day, your tan may fade a little faster simply because of increased friction from clothing and more frequent showers.
A few ways to help:
✔ Add the Sweat Resistant into your spray tan appointment (you wont regret it).
✔ Wear breathable workout clothes, nothing too tight.
✔ Shower soon after exercising.
✔ Use a gentle, sulfate-free body wash.
✔ Moisturize daily.
🚿 Summer Means More Showers...
We get it. You're showering more because you're at the beach, in the pool, or working out.
Try to keep showers:
warm instead of hot
under 10 minutes
gentle (no scrubbing!)
The less friction your skin experiences, the longer your tan will last.
🧴 Moisturize Every Day
This is the single most important thing you can do. Healthy, hydrated skin holds onto a spray tan longer. Choose an oil-free moisturizer and apply it morning and night if your skin tends to be dry.
Ingredients we love:
Hyaluronic acid
Shea butter
Glycerin
Ceramides
Avoid products with mineral oil or heavy exfoliating acids.
☀️ Don't Skip Sunscreen
A spray tan is not a substitute for sunscreen. Protect your skin every day with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Look for lightweight, hydrating formulas in a lotion (not aerosol) that won't strip your tan.
🧽 How Often Should You Exfoliate?
While you're maintaining your tan, skip exfoliation. Once you're ready for your next appointment and your tan has mostly faded, gently exfoliate with a mitt or soft scrub to remove any remaining color and create an even canvas.
📅 How Often Should You Get a Spray Tan?
It depends on your lifestyle.
✨ Vacation? Every 5–7 days.
✨ Weekly events? Every 7–10 days.
✨ Just maintaining your glow? Every 10–14 days.
Regular appointments create the most even, natural-looking results because you're never starting completely from scratch.
